Brian Jones – Vox Teardrop
Lewis Brian Hopkin Jones (28 February 1942 – 3 July 1969) was a founding member, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist in the English rock group The Rolling Stones.
Jones’ main guitar in the early years was a Gretsch Double Anniversary in two-tone green, but Jones is known for his signature teardrop-shaped prototype Vox Phantom Mark III.
The Guitar Details, History and Prominence
Rare Star Guitar is still in the process of completing the history for this Vox 3 Pick-up Tear-Drop but still believe it is a worthy addition to the collection.
So far we have accertained that this guitar was purchased by Alex Norton (of “Taggart” fame) from a guitar dealer in Glasgow. The dealer in question traded the guitar for a fender with Brian Jones who was staying in Glasgow after a concert in 1967. We are still searching for records of this guitar being given to Brian Jones by Vox and any photos of him using the guitar either on stage or in the studio.
